This site is dedicated to the memory of John Wiseman.

John Wiseman was the finest example of the English Gentleman you could ever hope to meet.  His warmth and care for his family, friends neighbours, colleagues and all those he met was acknowledged and appreciated by all.  John was born in Fulham in West London in 1933 and spent a working career as a loyal and steadfast official at the Bank of England.  He was a committed and active member of his local church in Hatch End in North London, and took on and excelled at almost every possible role.  He worked in the local community throughout his life to raise funds for a number of charities, including Dr Barnardo’s, The Fisherman’s Mission and the Royal National Life Boat Institution. His main passion in life was railways, in fact anything transport related. He travelled the length and breadth of the country to enjoy the travel itself, the views from the window as well as exploring the many final destinations.  The workings of the railway system were of particular interest to John, having spent hours exploring railway depots, stations and photographing all aspects of railway operations. During these trips many mugs of tea were enjoyed and lifelong friends were made along the way. His collection of railwayana and transport related objects is a sight to see. John leaves a much-loved wife, his sister, three children and five grandchildren with a great sense of loss and a feeling that there will not be many more like him. England is a poorer place for his passing, he will be sadly missed and long remembered.
